The World of the Ethnic Groups

Talks

Ethiopian ethnic groups, the Oromo, Bench and the tribes of the Omo

In the south of Ethiopia, before reaching the ethnic groups of the Omo River Valley, we will pass by villages where live the Oromo and Bench with their colourful houses, of which the children always go out for giving us a laugh before continuing the journey throughout one of Africa’s wildest corners. A journey through a time warp that will take us into an inhabited savannah where lives the set of fifteen ethnic groups. Observing their lifestyles, it will be easy to imagine how our own ancestors lived in prehistoric times.

The Mentawai (Sumatra, Indonesia), the ‘Flower-Men’

This was an experience with the Mentawai ethnic groups known for their ornamental tattoos to present themselves nice and beautiful in the eyes of spirits. They are a people very linked to Nature, where the men devote themselves to hunting and processing the sago tree, their main source of income. A nostalgic trip to that past in which the men were wise guardians of Nature.

The Small Nambas (Tanna, Vanuatu, South Pacific)

One of the best experiences that I have lived with ethnic groups. The Small Nambas, as they are called by the material with which they cover their genitals, live in the rainy forest of Tanna Island in Vanuatu, just as their ancestors have always done. They have not wanted to evolve. I continued their day-to-day customs taking part of the daily kava ceremony, seeing as they keep on making fire like in the Stone Age and celebrating with them the circumcision ritual.
